Driven out of danger: Driver saves lives of a mother and four-year-old at the Aero show fire break out

300 cars burned at the parking area of the Aero show

Huge seethes of black smoke filled up the parking of Yelahanka Air Force station in Bengaluru on Saturday afternoon. 300 cars were charred down at the 12th edition of Aero India as a fire broke out. The destruction could be way worse if it wasn’t for certain vigilant people.

The fire sparked only 4 cars ahead of my car but thanks to the presence of mind of the driver, he blazed my car out of that parking

Twinkle Jhunjhunwala and her four-year-old, Samarth were in full spirits when they left for Yelahanka at 8:15 am. On reaching, they were allotted parking space at Gate 5. Twinkle left for the show and returned an hour later to an extremely nervous driver. The driver, Esaiarason, sounded frantic and was breathless. He had just escaped the flares of a rapidly spreading fire.

‘We had been allotted parking at Gate 5, the same parking where 300 cars were gutted with fire. The fire sparked only 4 cars ahead of my car but thanks to the presence of mind of the driver, he blazed my car out of that parking. He could have easily left the car and run for his life but he chose to apply his mind and take the car out too. Totally love DriveU’ — Twinkle Jhunjhunwala

Imagine, when the only thought most people have is either flight or fight, this brave man chose the latter. I spoke to him briefly and all through he was profoundly kind, down to earth and empathetic to astronomical levels. When Twinkle left for the show, Esaiarason was still in the car. Because of the afternoon heat, he decided to step out and get a glimpse of the show. He walked for 2 km but then something told him to turn back.

Huge flares of fire and choking smoke filled the area

‘For some reason, I felt like something’s wrong. I don’t know why I turned and went back. As I was walking, at 500m from the parking spot, I passed a man running. He was covered in sweat and had a grave and scared expression. He announced that two cars were burning. I saw smoke at the place where I had parked the car. My stomach dropped. I ran to the car. The fire was just four cars ahead of mine and it was flaring at the right side of the parking area. Without a second thought, I got into the car and decided to escape from the left. I couldn’t breathe well or see properly but managed to get out’ — Esaiarason S
Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do even though you’re consumed with fear

Esaiarason was shaking with terror but even though most others would abandon the car and flee, he chose to fulfil his duty. When I asked him about his thoughts at that moment, he said,

‘Of course I was scared and looking at others scampering wasn’t helpful but the customer put faith in me. She trusted me with her car, with her life and it was my job to take care of it. Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do even though you’re consumed with fear. I’m truly sorry for other people and their cars’

Esaiarason S

Esaiarason is an enthusiastic 31 years old conscientious, hard-worker from Bangalore who lives with his mother. After the demise of his father ten years back, the responsibility of his family fell on his shoulder. He has ever since taken care of his mother and achieved new heights at his job at DriveU gracefully.

We are glad to have such amazing faces at DriveU.
